so heres what i need to accomplish:

1. key framed camera movement inside the blender game engine
2. real-time modified movement of a key framed camera inside the blender game engine
3. switching cameras/scenes using the ‘free moving’ key framed cameras
4. using the IR sensor (wii-mote) within the game engine
5. using the IR sensor information, to control the local movements of the camera
6. switching cameras/scenes with the IR sensor information implemented
7. exporting a stand alone application that (ideally) doesn’t require installation

step one is proving more difficult that i thought. haha. basically the game engine is set up for physics. so things that are animated need to be actors, and actors (by default) react to physics.

So how would this work? Basically you would animate your feature inside a real-time render engine. Most modern video game engines like Unreal and Source are powerful enough to produce quality work. But any engine should work. I’m thinking the blender game engine is the best option, because once a script is written to control the camera, its just a matter of animating the elements inside the program and exporting. (it’s probably much more difficult than that)

Right now I’m working on animating a camera path, while also giving the user control. Straight out of the box, it looks like an either/or.

so the big issue was with importing custom buttons. basically i could do it. but the alpha channels in the psd were shot. there was no aliasing.

Sooooo, how do you solve this?

basically by creating a custom psd button template. dvdsp then imports the photoshop documents with layers, and use the individual layers as elements in the the button.

you need exactly 4 layers to do this. no more, and no less (well 5 if you want a drop zone or something) but this example only endorses 4.

the top most layer is the “Icon” layer (the naming is important) this is the thumbnail you will

see in dvdsp. next is “Highlight” this is the ‘selected’ state of the button. its a solid color with the selection cut out of it. one site said to do it in black and white like an alpha mask, but dont. make it white, and cut out the black parts. Then its “Shape”. thats what the button actually looks like. it can use any color or amount of alpha you want. Last is “Background” locked. YOU MUST KEEP THIS LAYER. dvdsp freaks out if its not there, and notion works. so keep it.

rasterize any layers that need it and save it as a psd. visibility doesn’t matter, so turn them all on. import it as a custom shape (see above image). if you did it right, you can drag it over to the menu and make a button out of it. fiddle with the highlight color, and you’re all set!

im most proud of the fire extinguisher, even though it’s the smallest. hopefully i can get the google O3D API up and running so you can spin some of my models around. it’d also be a better way to get feedback, rather than having me take screenshots. ps, i just found out about it friday, and i spent the weekend making models, so i really didn’t try. but at a quick glance it looks like the only obstacle is finding a place to host the files since wordpress/flickr/photobucket/etc only allows jpgs/pngs and other recognizable files. not snippets of code and object data. oh well, will look into it…

and now! i’m off to eat corn!

hahahah. i started a band tonight. cause i was bored. i’m called ‘blue honeybee’ and my first album will be called ‘hive mind’. i’d describe my sound as 90′s alternative rock. and pretty much all of my songs will sound the same. i can’t wait for my album release party! so RSVP now before all my celebrity friends take your spot!
